Every year the Club has a charity ride to earn money for a cause[s] that the members choose.
In the past we’ve helped various Children’s charities so this year we’ve picked the other end of the spectrum and decided on charities that aid older people.
We wish that we could help all charities but alas – there’s not enough time in the day so.
The event is to raise funds for both Beech Holme Tandem Club to help blind and visually impaired along with Alzheimers Research UK.
One of our regular riders father is suffering from dementia, Alan is riding the 2015 Prudential Ride London 100 mile cycling sportive in August to raise funds for Alzheimers Research UK, what better way to get ready for 100 miles than riding 130!
Between the 17 riders that took part they covered nearly 2250 miles while their pedals spun around over 1/2 million revolutions, no wonder there were a few tired legs in the morning!
I didn’t want to calculate the calories consumed as I reckon it easily over took the calories used (around the 80,000 mark!)..
We all thought that it was a great cause along with the fact that Alan provides many amusing blog posts to keep us laughing that we want to help Alan reach his target.

The Beech Holme Tandem Club is based at HERIB, Beverley Road, Hull and was formed in about 1952 by a group of cyclists from the Cyclists Touring Club (who we’re affiliated with) so that blind back riders could enjoy the pleasures of cycling through the countryside with sighted front riders. – See more at: http://www.herib.co.uk/services/clubs-and-groups/beech-holme-tandem-club
The riders amassed in the Humber Bridge carpark on Friday evening along with family and well wishers.
They set off in a calm and peaceful conditions which prevailed throughout the night.
They all successfully completed the challenge and you can read about their exploits in detail over at Alan’s brilliant blog.
It looks like we’re on track to raise over £500 which a great sum.
