Introductory rides

October 25, 2017 - 6:00 pm

Hessle

Please remember your lights – you’ll need lights to be able to see not just be seen.

We run the very popular introductory rides along a standard 27 mile course on the South Bank of the Humber, these are relaxed enjoyable rides that are well attended.

Meet at the Humber Bridge car park from 5:45pm for a 6:00pm start, if you wish you can meet us on the South Bank underneath the Humber Bridge from 6:10 onwards.

Depending on the numbers attending we will split into groups of around 10.

This is for safety and to reduce our space on the road.

The journey time is usually between 1hr45m to 2hr30mins depending on any variations to the course or mechanicals.

The aim of these introductory rides is to allow those riders who are new to the club or haven’t ridden for some time to get out in a club environment and enjoy their bikes and the countryside, they are not designed for absolute beginners. If you’re in doubt please contact me for a quick discussion:

What we don’t want to do is discourage anyone, so please do get in touch.

The standard route also encourages riders to gauge their fitness and allows them to transition onto the weekend club rides when they feel ready. This is the main aim for these Wedensday night..

New members will be shown the various hand signals used for group riding along with pack equitique such as keeping your line and advising on slowing and stopping.

We ask that before attending you visit the website and have a quick read of the starting out web page.

If you’re new to group cycling it might be worth spending a few minutes watching this video:

We may add in a few hills depending on a consensus on the night just to spice things up..

For regular Cottingham Road Club members who will be attending – the pace of this ride will be slower so please don’t start pushing at the front, this is all about providing access to cycling and the club, it’s also a great social time.

Though we usually take in a hill or two..

If you have a friend that you feel will benefit from riding then feel free to pass on this email – all we ask is that they complete the ‘Emergency Contact Form’ on the website – http://cottinghamroadclub.co.uk/join-us
