Sunday Club Ride – Hornsea for sun and cake

The weekend’s ride was a trip out to Hornsea.

The usual group leaders were either tired from the overnight charity ride or otherwise engaged, this allowed Rich and Ben to gain experience of leading a Cottingham Road Club ride which they did admirably – thank you guys..

The route was a short (43 miles) circular one setting out from the Swiss Cottage pub at the end of Holderness Road.

It headed east to Aldbrough before turning North for Hornsea where the group took a rest from the wind and enjoyed a coffee and cake (plus the odd sausage butty..)

After refreshments they then carried on North before turning at Skipsea for a ride back to Hull passing through Brandesburton and Swine.

There were a few attacks on the ride as riders stretched their legs.. These events allow people to develop their fitness while having fun, it’s a form of interval training but with an added edge. They are always followed by a coming together of the pack so those that fall behind aren’t left on their own.

One of the attacks was caught on camera by ride leader Rich..

It was good to see riders making the transition from the regular Wednesday night introductory rides to the weekend club rides, the confidence building rides on Wednesday help people understand what group riding is about and when riders feel ready they make that leap to the longer rides.
