The Spartans , A Mini Contador and The CTC Spring Standard Ride

CTC SPRING STANDARD RIDE 06-03-16

When I arrived at the Methodist Church Hall in Cottingham for the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) Spring Standard Ride I was still unsure which ride I was going to do.

Would it be the 50 or would it be the 70 ?

I had done the 50 miler last year. A  gloriously flat ride but we had taken a beating in some exposed sections from a seriously gusting wind.

The 70 miler, on the other hand, was going to be a hilly challenge.

Unconfined joy, more hills !

Eye of the Tiger

Alan has produced another thrilling and funny blog post covering the recent CTC 90 year event.
You can read all about it over on his website.

Alan is building up his fitness so he can ride the 2015 Prudential Ride London 100 mile cycling sportive in August. This is a massive challenge for him and is doing it on behalf of his Dad who is a dementia sufferer and to raise funds for Alzheimers Research UK.

Please give what you can for Alan’s cause.

CTC – standard ride

The Cottingham Road Club is an affiliated member of the Cyclist Touring Club with some of our members taking advantage of the generous offers it provides.

A few times during the year it runs ‘standard’ rides, these are set distances that you have to complete under a standard time.

They are like measuring sticks.

Last Sunday was one such event and some of our members took part – here’s a superb write up by Alan.

CRC affiliates with the CTC

It’s a mouth full but the CRC have affiliated with the CTC.

The CRC have always been a non-racing club so the committee of the Cottingham Road Club decided that the club has more in common with the Cycle Touring Club than British Racing.

Our local club can be found over at http://eastyorkshirectc.org.uk/ where you will find a wealth of information, they have a very active member base and have regular well defined routes for its members to ride.

The affiliation allows club rides to be insured as well as other perks.

Members can take advantage of reduced costs for individual 3rd party insurance of just £16 per year (rises to £18 if purchased on or after 1st Oct 2014).

This will cover them for up to £10 million for 3rd party claims.

They are also allowed to enter CTC club rides for free.

All in all it was too good a deal to ignore.

East Yorkshire CTC – standard ride

Cottingham Road Club is an inclusive club, and that philosophy extends to other cycling clubs. The most important thing is that people cycle, we are not precious that you cycle always with CRC, we just ask that you do some of the time because we feel we have the most fun 🙂

And on that note I want to bring your attention to a set of rides to be run on Sunday 3rd March 2013 by the East Riding branch of the Cycling Touring Club. The rides are their Spring Standard Rides, which are a way of determining your fitness level.

You can choose from three distances on the day with something for everyone:

The start & finish will be at the Cottingham Methodist Church, Hallgate, Cottingham

Start time for all is 9.30 am

IF you wish to enter the price is £2.00 (Free to CTC Members) with the early bird entry price closure date being 24th February 2013.

If you miss that you can enter on the day but it will cost £4.00

The entry fee includes refreshments at the end of the ride.
